Tutorial 7: How can I copy all different files to a third directory

Task:
Copy all files that are different from directories "c:\My Documents" and "d:\Backup\My Documents" to directory "c:\Difference". Different files are files with equal filenames and unequal size, date/time or files that are existing only on one of compared directories.


Solution:

  • Create the destination directory named as "c:\Difference" for different files. To do it click secondary mouse button to activate the context menu of the directories tree and select menu item Create directory (Button create directory F7) in the context menu of the directories tree.

  • Select directories in the directories tree. For example, in the left tree select "c:\My Documents" and in the right tree select "d:\Backup\My Documents".

  • Compare the sected diretories. To compare selected directories click on the button (Button compare without subdirectories F5) in the Trees toolbar.

  • In the menu Show or in the Visibility filters combobox select All files except equal files. After it in the comparison table you see files that are different. Different files are files with equal filenames and unequal size, date/time or files that are existing only on one of compared directories.

  • In the Comparison table toolbar click on the button Select all (Button select all) or press CTRL+A to select all files.

  • Click on the button Copy to (Copy to SHIFT+F5) in the Comparison table toolbar to activate the Copy to window. In this window select the directory "c:\Difference" and click on the button Ok to start copying files.
